Aosta|At the Heart of the Valley
In Aosta’s basin, in 25 B.C., the Romans founded the ancient Augusta Praetoria Salassorum, a settlement surrounded by a natural amphitheatre made up of mountains and peaks. Today, the area comprised between Sarre and Fénis seems to be a history book full of churches, palaces and castles, while the road to the Gran San Bernardo is home to rugged landscapes that will enchant you like pages full of images, filling your soul and eyes with wonder. Aosta is the second city, after Rome, with the largest number of still visible ancient Roman remains, reason why it is also called “the Rome of the Alps“.
